John Richmond Landscaping, Inc. was established in 1987 by current President Ike Carter. The business was incorporated in 1991 and continues to grow. The business continues to thrive and now supports multiple landscape and landscape maintenance crews.
Our crews take great pride in their work, are respectful and courteous. Most of our employees have been with us for over 5 years and some for over 10. Once you have accepted our maintenance proposal our goal is to have the same team with the same foreman, on the same day in your yard during the regular weekly, bi-weekly or monthly season.

Ike is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University. Something you might not know— John Richmond Carter, Jr. is Ike’s real name. Ike is a family nick name. It is well known that Ike and his wife are huge VCU basketball fans.
Dave Snyder, Operations Manager
In 2006, Dave Snyder was brought in to manage operations and assist in sales. Dave is a Penn State graduate and a certified horticulturist. He brings years of knowledge and experience from having worked as the Director of Grounds Maintenance at the Country Club of Virginia for 18 years. Dave enjoys riding his Harley in his downtime.
Tom Belden, Landscape Maintenance Manager & Sales
Tom brings 35 years of experience as a landscape designer and horticulturist to the John Richmond Landscaping team. He is a Williamsburg native and studied at Virginia Tech. Tom served as Assistant Grounds Director for Christopher Newport University and owned his own business for 15 years in the Williamsburg/James City County area. He is a lacrosse dad of two sons.
Trey Steeley, Turf and Ornamental Manager
Trey was hired in 2012 when we expanded our lawn weed control and shrub disease & insect control services. He is a licensed pesticide specialist with reliable knowledge in the development of warm and cool season turf programs as well as implementing integrated pest management programs. Trey is an avid golfer.
Melissa Chaplin, Finance and Human Resources Director
Melissa Chaplin was hired to manage our office in 2007. She has since taken over Finance and HR duties. Melissa and her family are big hot rod enthusiasts.
Denise Simpson, Office Supervisor
Denise joined our team in 2013. She has been instrumental in helping our team streamline office procedures and billing. Denise is a devoted NASCAR fan.
